The Project:
JCVI’s commitment to environmental stewardship has guided the design and construction of this 45,000 square foot research facility from its inception. The project is benchmarked using two building design guidelines – the USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and the EPA’s Laboratories for the 21st Century programs. Based on this benchmarking and additional sustainable features, JCVI is aiming to be one of the “greenest” buildings in the United States with a LEED® Platinum rating and a carbon-neutral footprint. The approach has revolved around energy performance, water conservation, and the utilization of recycled and environmentally responsible construction materials. To maximize LEED rating points, T.B. Penick targeted a 40% recycled materials usage, and is actively engaged in R&D efforts to provide the highest level of sustainable products and building practices
