The Project:
The San Clemente Pedestrian Beach Trail is a significant link in the statewide Coastal Trail, serving to make more of the beach accessible to the public. The 2.5 mile multi-use trail extends from North Beach to Calafia, and is located at the base of coastal bluffs within the right of way of the existing rail corridor. In order to allow for safe access to the Metrolink line, an elevated pedestrian walkway was installed, connecting the trail to the rail station. Various measures to protect the environment and enhance the sustainability of the site were incorporated into the project, including installation of native vegetation, water-efficient irrigation methods, and close monitoring of the coastal bluffs and emergent wetlands abutting the site. T.B. Penick was the Prime Contractor on this project, which encompassed grading, drainage, channels, landscaping and irrigation, site concrete, structural concrete and pedestrian bridgework.
