T.B. PENICK & SONS GENERAL CONSTRUCTION TOPS-OFF $8.8 MILLION AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER PROJECT AT NAS LEMORE
SAN DIEGO – October 15, 2007 – T.B. Penick & Sons General Construction has topped-off construction on the new, 6,580 square foot, 10-story air traffic control tower at Naval Air Station Lemoore. The $8.8 million design/build project by T.B. Penick & Sons and Harper Construction Company includes the construction of a new control tower with partial demolition of the existing tower.
Under construction since March 2007, the new tower will feature a tower cab sized for 11 people, briefing/break room, supervisor offices, training and storage rooms, fire rated exit stairway, elevator access, restroom facilities, locker room, and blast resistant windows. Antiterrorism/Force Protection standards have been integrated into the design.
Exterior finishes to the tower include pre-cast concrete panels, insulated doors and metal panels, and aluminum louvers and windows. A catwalk with metal railings will be constructed at the 9th and cab level floors.
CCSA Architects of San Diego provided the architectural design for the project with Wyatt Chapman serving as the principal architect for the firm. Owen Bingham, is the project reconstruction and design manager for T.B. Penick with Robin Wright providing construction quality control and Dave Duncan serving as the project supervisor. Harvey Rogoff is the project manager for Harper Construction.
Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest project team at NAS Lemoore includes Marlan Snodgrass, contracting officer; LCDR Rod Tribble, FEAD officer; LTJG Jason Ray, project leader; Molly Evans, project engineer; Ralph Smith, field quality assurance and safety; and Janice Watkins, administration support.
The project is scheduled for completion in June 2008.
