T.B. Penick & Sons, Inc. Wins Prestigious Safety Excellence Award
Established San Diego construction firm sets industry standard for progressive, innovative and thorough safety management program
SAN DIEGO – Jan. 23, 2007 — Today T.B. Penick & Sons, a full-service construction firm serving San Diego for over 100 years, is being recognized with the Construction Safety Excellence Award (Specialty Division) by the San Diego chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). T.B. Penick will next go on to compete for the national AGC award this spring.
According to the AGC, the Construction Safety Excellence Award was designed to recognize companies that have “developed and implemented excellent safety and loss prevention programs achieved through management commitment, employee training and program innovation.” Considerations for the award include evidence of company management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control and safety program innovation.

A variety of factors make T.B. Penick’s safety program stand out. First, safety standards are implemented and supported at the highest level of the company; top executives meet weekly to discuss safety issues. An award program is also in place to nominate and reward employees who exceed safety standards and policies. Lastly, T.B. Penick regularly brings in external consultants to review safety standards and keep the company up to date with the latest procedures and technologies.
