The Department of the Navy contracted with T.B. Penick to construct their new
44,499 SF Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Water Survival Training Facility used for deep water survival training of Marine recruits. The facility features a three-level training pool with clear span structural steel metal frame and tile roof enclosure. The cast-in-place concrete pool and building foundations were constructed on pre-cast concrete piles for stability and set into hydraulic fill material surrounding the site. The steel superstructure is designed to flex and return to form in the event of seismic activity.
